Obituary
Judge John Palmer Usher [1816-1889 age 73] served as the Secretary of the Interior between 1863 and 1865 in the Cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. He accompanied Lincoln to Gettysburg for the Gettysburg Address. Usher served one term [1879] as mayor of Lawrence.
